These displays show the percentage of students ready in 0, 1, 2 or 3 developmental areas and a breakdown of the percentage of students ready in each of those developmental areas. Learn More 

 

The Kindergarten Individual Development Survey (KIDS) was implemented statewide in Illinois in the 2017-2018 school year.

KIDS is used annually in the fall by kindergarten teachers to observe students on 14 measures across 3 developmental areas during the first few weeks of school. The domains are:

  • Social and Emotional Development

  • Language and Literacy Development

  • Cognition: Math

Children are observed while they are playing, working, lining up, and during other parts of the regular school day. Children likely don’t even notice teachers observing.

Teachers use the observations to place each child’s abilities on a learning pathway.

Teachers and districts go through this process at least once per year.
