The number of administrators varies greatly between districts, depending on the size, student population, programs, and financial resources of each district.
Administrators must have two years of experience as a teacher or school service personnel before serving as an administrator. Some administrators may have regular contact with students, such as a dean of students or a department chair who also teaches. Some administrators may work more with other adults, such as a curriculum director or a superintendent. Administrators are responsible for the supervision and control of schools. Duties may include personnel management, performance evaluation, student discipline, planning professional development, oversight of facilities and finances, instructional leadership, and engagement with the community.
